BEST OF BOTH WORLDS CONFERENCE 2015: "Ensuring Effective Delivery for a Sustainable Future"

 

6 - 12 September 2015

 

Rainforest Discovery Centre, Sepilok, Sandakan, Sabah, MALAYSIA

 

INTRODUCTION

The first Best of Both Worlds Conference (BoBW) was organised in South Africa in 1998. Considering the common interest in the development of environmental education and the importance of conserving the rich heritage of biodiversity in both countries, University of South Africa (UNISA) and Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) agreed to alternate the conference between the two countries to share and learn from each other. In 2014, University of Sao Paolo joined the force and hosted it in Brazil for the first time. It is again, the Malaysian turn to host. This is the seventh conference in the series of Best of Both Worlds on Environmental Education and Sustainability with a special focus oneffective methods for sustainable practice.

Our future depends on responsible generations as the stewards of the very environment that sustain our communities and resources. Hence positive impacts from environmental education need to be ensured. Connecting complex relationships between economic prosperity, benefits to society, environmental health and biodiversity conservation, environmental education plays imperative role in human development.

 

Best of Both Worlds 2015 "Ensuring Effective Delivery for a Sustainable Future" highlights the themes below:

 

Theme 1:

Environmental Education Impacts on Sustainability and Biodiversity Conservation: Success Stories

 

Theme 2:

What Works and What Doesn't: Methods of Implementation

 

Theme 3:

Future Directions: International Perspectives on Policies and the Effectiveness

 

OBJECTIVES

v To review the progress of environmental education and its impact on sustainability
v To share effective methods for implementation of environmental education
v To gather information for the purpose of recommending effective national policies
v To establish networking among participants from different countries for possible collaborations
 

PARTICIPANTS

Environmental education practitioners, teachers, parks and recreation area managers, academicians, NGOs, stakeholders and those interested in environmental education.

 

PROGRAMME

The programme includes keynote address, oral and poster presentations. Presentations on environmental education impacts will be the highlights of the programme.

 

Optional pre and post conference tours are opened to participants and accompanying persons. They will be organized on 6-7 September 2015 for places of interest in Sabah including Kinabalu Park UNESCO World Heritage Site and 11-12 September 2015 in the areas of Sandakan including Lower Kinabatangan and Gomantong Cave.

 

LANGUAGE

The official language of the conference is English

 

CALL FOR PAPERS/POSTERS

The conference will include oral, poster presentations and workshops. Those interested in presenting papers or posters should note the following dates:

30 April 2015 Notification of accepted papers

30 June 2015 Submission of full papers

The fee covers a full set of papers/proceedings, conference bag, 3 morning breaks, 3 lunches and 3 tea breaks.

 

B) FEE FOR ACCOMPANYING PERSON, 8-10 September 2015

Malaysian accompanying person : RM 300.00
Accompanying person : USD 150 .00

The fee covers 3 morning breaks, 3 lunches and 3 tea breaks.

 

C) PRE & POST CONFERENCE TOUR FEE (optional tour at additional cost)

Limited to 30 seats only.

To places of interest in Sabah including Kinabalu Park, UNESCO World Heritage Site and Sabah Tea Garden.

*Exact cost is to be determined later. The fee covers accommodation on 6th September 2015 and coach from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan.

 

C2) PRE CONFERENCE TOUR, 11-12 September 2015

To places of interest near Sandakan including Lower Kinabatangan and Gomantong Cave.

*Exact cost is to be determined later. The fee covers coach during the tour.
